On Friday, September 14, 2018, the Second Annual Faith Games were held at CYO Camp Marydale. Cardinal Newman sent a team comprised of ten students that would compete in eight different friendly competitions to earn the title of champions. Cardinal Newman’s team was made up of students from different grades, skills and talents. After the morning games Cardinal Newman was undefeated and we began to come together as one team and build our confidence for the afternoon sessions. Looking back on the day, our team made so many new friends and met different students from other schools as well. The environment was very welcoming and it encouraged every student to be themselves and help the team using their individual skills and interests. All the challenges were unique and fun such as walking on stilts, Frisbee golf, obstacle courses, jenga and a tennis ball catapult. Each game challenged the teams to use every member of the group, come up collectively with a strategy and include everyone’s opinions and thoughts. Cardinal Newman took the win with a sweeping 295 points and was awarded first place medals, a trophy and a $500 cheque to be given to a charity of our choice. Our team decided to donate the money to St. Patrick’s De Mazenod Door that serves a lunch BBQ to the less fortunate in Hamilton. Each team member took something away from the day, whether it is a new friendship, an awesome high school memory, increased self confidence or a closer relationship with God. The faith games brought together a great group of students who had fun, put their best efforts forward and brought out the best in each other.
